Antalya

Antalya's Standard of Living

Opinions on living in tourist cities vary widely, and the question of whether Antalya, one of Turkey's foremost tourist destinations, is a desirable place to call home is a matter of debate. Undoubtedly, Antalya boasts a plethora of attractions that make it a prime destination for tourists.
However, the real query is whether its residents enjoy a comfortable life in the city. It's worth noting that Antalya, as a tourist-oriented city, offers an array of recreational amenities, which generally lead to high satisfaction levels among both local residents and foreigners residing there. Consequently, Antalya has become an increasingly popular destination for immigrants from Istanbul and other urban centers, with a growing number of foreign individuals investing in property within the city. This influx of newcomers has transformed Antalya into a more cosmopolitan metropolis than ever before.

Antalya is a great place for sightseeing. If you want to do some sightseeing, you should visit Aspendos and Antalya's labyrinthine central old town. The city is perfectly placed for day-tripping around the historic tourist attractions scattered across the nearby hills. Sightseers will enjoy the ancient amphitheater of Aspendos and the Byzantine old town of Antalya with its winding streets.

The average cost of living in Antalya

  • Buying:
The average cost of a square meter in Antalya is about €435. By the end of April, 6,875 houses and apartments were sold in the province of Antalya

  • Renting:
Housing prices in Antalya remain relatively inexpensive and accessible when compared to other popular tourist spots across Europe. Consequently, numerous Europeans opt to invest in real estate in Antalya instead of choosing hotel accommodations. Various property options, both for purchase and rental, are available throughout Turkey, with pricing contingent on factors such as location, financial status, and the specific property type sought after. It is crucial to keep in mind that tenants are responsible for covering municipal services like electricity, telephone, internet, and water, and these expenses should be factored into the monthly rent.
Due to high demand, housing rent prices in the Mediterranean province of Antalya have skyrocketed from 4,500 to around 19,000 Turkish Liras (from $180 to nearly $725).

  • Utilities and Bills:
Electricity bills for 2-bedroom apartments in Antalya are 250 to 600 lira per month and there is no standing charge; you only pay for what you use. A major factor contributing to high electricity bills is air conditioning units that consume a lot of power, so some residents opt to install stand-up fans or ceiling fans instead—although newer inverter-type air conditioning units are more economical to run than older models.

  • Food and drinks:
Antalya offers a multitude of dining options, including well-known fast-food chains like McDonald's and Burger King where you can enjoy a standard fast-food meal for approximately $10, or savor a delicious cheeseburger for about $3. Coffee enthusiasts will find their fix with a cappuccino priced at $6 and an espresso for $4.

  • Public transport:
Antalya has several transportation options for getting around. You can take the tram, a public bus or a water bus for relatively short distances. The buses are great for going places further away from the city center, and you can also use them to walk around on. Tourists generally like using these methods of transport because they provide a pleasant journey experience as well as crossing the sights

  • Health insurance:
A health insurance plan provides coverage for a wide range of situations, including emergencies, pregnancy, and hospitalization. In Turkey, every citizen is required to enroll in the Social Security Institution (SGK). To register, you can either visit your nearest social security center or call 131. The SGK offers healthcare services exclusively in state hospitals, but occasionally, there may be long waiting times. On the other hand, there are private hospitals available that offer healthcare services at more affordable rates than state hospitals, with shorter wait times.
